Treatment & Techniques for Your Aches and Pains

Feeling body aches and pains is part of being human. We’ve all felt it. But some of us experience lasting pain, chronic pain and discomfort that affects our daily lives. When this happens, you should seek out the help of a chiropractor.

Why could I be in pain?

There are many possible reasons for pain: bad posture, overuse injuries, hypoxia, acute trauma… and the list continues. Dr. Donato can help you discover the cause of your condition and provide treatment to naturally eradicate your pain. From performing a Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA) to applying Active Release Techniques® (ART) and prescribing corrective exercises for you to do at home, Dr. Donato creates a customized plan for your pain relief, starting at the cause.

Most importantly, remember that pain is just a symptom and is a very important way that our body alerts us that there is injury or dysfunction.  Used with other findings, pain is a necessary tool at helping determine the underlying cause.

Healing at Home

Experiencing back pain, neck pain, sciatica pain or headaches? While we recommend you talk to your doctor and seek the help of a chiropractor if you’re dealing with lasting pain or discomfort, there are a few ways that you can relieve or prevent the pain naturally at home.

Get a good night’s sleep. Keep your neck and back straight, and don’t use too many pillows. Make sure that you’re comfortable, but be mindful of the position of your spine and vertebrae.

Increase your flexibility. Get into a routine of stretching to relieve aching muscles and joints, while increasing flexibility to help prevent future problems.

Use hot and cold therapy. Soothe the affected area with either a hot water bottle or an ice pack. When using a hot pack, moist heat is better.

Break out of harmful habits. Are you leaning towards your computer all day? Hunched over a cellphone? These daily habits can quickly add up to create chronic conditions involving poor posture, back pain, neck pain and headaches. Take breaks to stand, walk around and stretch. Better yet, take the time to make your work station ergonomically correct for healthy posture.

Seeing a Chiropractor

When you’re experiencing any pain, weakness, tightness, numbness, tingling or dysfunction, it’s wise to see a professional to evaluate the condition before you take action. Dr. Donato can provide a wealth of options to bring you cause-focused correction of your disfunction or injury and natural pain relief, from applying joint mobilization chiropractic adjustment to working with you to employ Active Release Techniques that break up scar tissue restricting your movement. A skilled chiropractor can assess your condition and prescribe a treatment plan specific to your health care needs.

Why Could I Be In Pain?

  1. Overuse and repetitive motion/stress often lead to changes and tightening in the soft tissues (muscles, tendons, ligaments, nerves). These changes result in altered posture and movement patterns that lead to injury and dysfunction.
  2. Previous injury is the #1 leading cause of an injury. Failing to properly treat, rehabilitate and restabilize the affected area is a fertile environment for further injury and chronic issue.
  3. Poor posture is a very common cause of neck, upper and mid back discomfort. Sitting for long periods of time at a computer or commuting creates a great deal of stress on the musculoskeletal system.
